Riga Dairy Factory AS in cooperation with Latvian Food Competence Centre SIA, CFLA concluded agreement No. 1.2.1.2.i.2/1/24/A/CFLA/002 “”Latvian Food Competence Centre – energy efficiency”, implements research project No. EN-26 " Use of recyclable packaging materials in the packaging of dairy products ".
The aim of the research project is to develop five packaging solutions using recyclable materials or reducing the amount of recyclable packaging materials in order to reduce the environmental impact of the company's products in the long term.
During the implementation of the project, six activities will be introduced, the main tasks of which include testing recyclable packaging materials in the laboratory environment, mechanical testing of new structure material, testing of packaging materials compatibility, assessment of the impact of the new packaging material on product characteristics, validation of the suitability of the sustainable material under production conditions and approval of suitability.
The result of the project is the development of five types of product packaging (sour cream and yogurt, pancakes, processed cheese slices, processed cheese, UHT products: milk and sweet cream) from recyclable packaging materials or recyclable packaging.
The total cost of the research project is planned to be EUR 328,848.84, including co-financing of the Recovery and Resilience Facility in the form of a EUR 137,971.88 grant. Project implementation period 05.2026-10.2027
